How to differentiate a hotel when everyone offers the same
Edition Collective · by Rocío Calderón
Most hotels compete by showing the same thing: room photos, a list of amenities, a price. The problem is that when everyone says the same, the guest can only decide on price. And competing on price is a race no one wins.
A hotel is differentiated by its brand, not its inventory. The brand is the promise of how you'll feel: the calm of a check-in with no queue, the ritual of a welcome, the detail you remember and retell. That isn't copied as easily as a rate.
In practice, differentiating a hotel is positioning work before decoration. Define who it's for — and who it isn't — what experience it delivers and in what tone. Then every photo, every line and every booking screen must tell that same story.
It's what we work on with Hoteles Amor Group, the Chilean chain of three boutique motels —Amor Amor, Blue and La Pasión—, each with its own personality but a single brand promise.
The guest doesn't remember the square meters. They remember how they felt. That's your real competitive advantage.
